Business Ambassadors

Your Business Ambassadors are people who may not be able to book a party for you right now but they work with or are associated with lots of other women.  This could be a friend, a relative, a past hostess, your hair dresser, a shop owner, or someone who works at a school.  Set up a small display and a few catalogs with this Sign-up Sheet.  Put her name, your Ambassador, at the top and tell her you will give her a free gift for filling out the sheet with at least 10 contacts.  Let her know you will be back in 2 – 3 days to pick up the list and deliver her gift.  Follow up with everyone on the list right away!

Often times your Ambassadors will turn into Hostesses and Team Members, especially if they are Continue reading

We Are All Salespeople

One of the objections I hear most often when sharing my business opportunity is, “I’m not good at sales.”  I’m sure you’ve heard it too.  But, everyone is good at sales and everyone does it.  Sales is really about providing service and filling a need by bringing value to another person.  I learned from Deb Bixler, of the Create a Cash Flow Radio Show, that the root of the word ‘sales’ comes from a Scandinavian word that means ‘to serve’.  People sell all the time.  Have you ever heard of a great product at a great price and told your friends about it?  Have you ever received a coupon that was so good you had to share it with others, maybe through social media?  Have you ever seen a bad movie at the theater and warned your friends to save their money and wait for DVD?  Or maybe it was a great movie so you wanted to tell everyone about it?  That IS selling!  You are simply sharing something of value that you think someone else will find valuable too.  Often times at my home parties the hostess and a few guests are selling my products to the other guests just by talking about the benefits and what they love about it.  We all do this.  It’s natural for us to want to share something good with people we care about.  You can do it for free or you can earn an income for the service you provide.

Mary Christensen’s 5 Favorite Recruiting Tips

5-recruiting-tips

It’s Spring and that means a growth spurt for your business!  But it’s not enough to want it – you have to work for it!  To help you here are Mary Christensen’s five favorite RECRUITING TIPS taken from Be A Recruiting Superstar“.

Tip #1
Always have your antenna up for potential team members.  Make it a daily habit to think:
“Who will be interested in starting their own business?”
“Why will they be interested?”

If you’re not looking you can be sure someone else will find them.  What can be worse than someone else finding a new team member because you stepped over them with your blinkers on?  From “Be A Recruiting Superstar

Tip #2
A sincere compliment is a winning conversation starter and you’ll sponsor more by making it all about your prospects.  Think before you speak: “Why am I approaching this person to join my team?” and let them know it!
To a customer who is always friendly: “Because you’re always so friendly. I feel good when I call you.”  OR “You’re one of my favorite customers and I would love to work with you.”
To a favorite host: “Your party was my best this month and it was definitely because you were a great host.  We would be thrilled to have you on our team.”  OR “I would love my other team members to meet you.  We’re a fun group and you are exactly the kind of person we love joining us.”
To a close friend or sibling: “Because I keep thinking how much fun it would be to work this together and maybe even get to travel together.”

-From “Be A Recruiting Superstar

Tip #3
Try an attitude adjustment.  It’s a little painful but the cure is permanent.  Change your thinking to: “If I’m not getting lots of no’s I’m clearly not asking enough people.”  We’d all prefer to say no than not be invited.  Instead fretting that they’ll say no, give them a chance to say no.  On the flip side, some will say yes, and some will say maybe.  So, don’t let your emotional issues get in your way.  They’re personal and this is business.  Ask!

Tip #4
Here’s the mind switch that transformed my business.  I stopped hoping to meet my next recruit at parties and told myself: “I know my next Consultant is here today.  My job is to work out who it is.”  With the absolute certainty that she was in the room with me, possibly sitting right in front of me, I focused on identifying her (starting with talking less and interacting more to make it easy for us to connect).

Tip #5
Step into their shoes!  Your enthusiastic, impulsive Peacocks will respond to compliments, and the fun, social aspect of direct selling!  Don’t be too casual with your analytical owls, they will expect you to be ready with the facts and figures!  You’ll be challenged by your competitive eagle so be direct and businesslike; and give your wary Wrens space to make a decision.  When you learn to identify and adapt to your prospect’s personalities you’ll see better results… and I’ve made it even easier to understand your personality – and others.  With my new downloadable App iAMWOT? you will discover your true personality – and get instant advice on how to adapt to others in minutes!

2-2-2 Follow Up Method

Follow-up is a big part of great Customer Service!  The 2-2-2 Follow-up Method is a great way to provide your customers with excellent customer care while focusing on THEIR needs and truly coming from a place of service.

If you are not incorporating a customer service regimen into your business, you are missing out on sales, bookings and sponsoring opportunities.  Customer care builds relationships and it is the foundation of your business.

Below is a 3-part follow up system I like to call the 2-2-2 Follow-up Method. There are many variations of this floating around but I wasn’t completely happy with any them so I made my own version…

1st Call – 2 Days After Sale

This is a thank you call.  Take the attitude of gratitude. Most people are pleasantly shocked to hear from you.  It goes something like this… “It was a pleasure to meet you…  Thank you for attending Susie’s party and helping her earn so many free products.  Did you know Continue reading

How to Run a Facebook Page Contest Easily, Legally, and FREE

paragraph-spacer
Things have changed recently (as they always do in Facebook World) and I have been getting a lot of questions about what can and can’t be done when running a Facebook contest since the rules were changed back in August 2013.  You can now run a contest without a third party app on your Page (not personal Profile/Timeline).  You can use Likes and Comments as a means of entry to your contest.  You can even announce the winner on your Page (something you could not do before).  But, one thing you can NOT do that I still see a lot of Page doing is ask users to SHARE in order to be entered to win.

Here’s a handy breakdown of what you can and can’t do to run a contest on your Page:
(from Social Media Examiner)

What You Can Do:

  • Require people to like a post and/or comment on a post to be entered
  • Require that someone post something directly on your timeline to enter (could be a text post or a photo)
  • Use likes as a voting method (either liking a post or photo on your timeline)
  • Require that someone message your page to enter
  • Announce the winner of the contest on your page
  • Require that to win the prize, entrants come back to your page to see who has won the contest
  • Use a Like button plugin on a website as a voting mechanism
  • Use an app plugin to post an entry to your contest directly on your page
  • Run your contest through a Facebook app

What You Can’t Do:

  • Require that people share a post or photo to be entered
  • Require someone to post something on their own personal timeline or a friend’s timeline to enter
  • Require people to tag themselves in a photo to either vote or enter
  • Have anyone who likes your page be entered to win (contest does not take place on the timeline)

To be clear on “sharing” (because this is the most misunderstood part), Page owners can encourage their fans to share the contest but sharing cannot be a form of entering the contest.  You can enter to win by liking or commenting.  You cannot enter by sharing.  Each like/comment can be a way to enter.  Sharing can NOT.  Click HERE for a link to great article by PostPlanner that gives some examples of what is not allowed.

Below are a couple of my favorite resources for running a FREE contest on your Page Timeline EASILY:

Contest Capture is an easy, free tool that lets you keep track of contest entries via Likes and Comments on a Post and export them into a .csv file.  You can then randomly select your winner by entering the total number of lines from your exported file onto a site like random.org.  Easy and free!

contest-capture-123-fb4ds

Woobox is another great option for running a contest.  Selecting a winner by way of commenting or liking a post is one of their free tools.  Watch THIS VIDEO to see how to do it.

paragraph-spacer
Free is always great, but there are some advantages to using a paid app to run your Page promotions. If you are giving something away, you’ll want to capture an email address or some sort of contact information to add your contestants to your marketing list.  Most of the time, collecting emails through a third party Facebook app will mean you have to pay.  However, I will go over some FREE ways to do this (along with many other super tips) on my next free training webinar.  Sign up HERE and get a replay of my last webinar: How to Separate Business and Personal on Facebook.

For a handy list from the awesome people at ShortStack of 5 ways to legally contact your contest winners, click on the image below:
contact-winners-legal-waysparagraph-spacer
And, lastly, make sure your post includes the following information:
  • Your contest rules
  • A disclaimer that your promotion is not endorsed, sponsored, administered by, or associated with Facebook
  • And that anyone who enters agrees to the rules and releases Facebook of any obligation
Here are some additional resources to check out for more information:

Commenting On Blogs As Your Business Page

First of all, I know it has been a long time since I’ve written a blog post but I have been focusing more on my video tips lately and this poor blog site has been left neglected too long. I will eventually be moving my videos into this blog but this is a quick tip that I can do with 3 easy screen shots so no need for a video this time.

Most people know that one of the best ways to get traffic to your web site is to comment on other people’s blogs with a link back to yours. Often times you can log in via Facebook but that only links back to your personal profile, not your business page. Here’s a way to comment using the Facebook plugin, but AS YOUR PAGE, not your personal profile.

Now, not all blog sites are set up to allow this type of posting, but I’m noticing more often that many of them are set up this way.

1. When you get to the bottom of a post and you see the option to “Change” who you are posting as, click on it.

01-fb4ds-1

2. You will be given the option to select one of your business pages from a drop down menu like this:

02-fb4ds-1

3. Select the page you want to post as and make your comment.  You will see that you are now “Posting as [YOUR PAGE]”.

03-fb4ds-1

Now when someone clicks on your page name on this comment thread they will be directed to your business page.

S.M.A.R.T. Goals

S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for 5 characteristics that help you set well-defined goals:

          S = Specific

         M = Measurable

         A = Attainable/Achievable

         R = Realistic and Relevant/Rewarding

         T = Timely

 S.M.A.R.T. goals are used by those who want to go beyond the idea of goal-setting into an actionable plan for results.  It’s a great acronym!  We want to be smart about setting our goals, right?  If you want to actually accomplish your goals, you must first be smart about defining them.  Let’s break down each of the components of S.M.A.R.T. goals:

Specific: What exactly is it that you are trying to accomplish? Ambiguous goals produce ambiguous results, and paint a vague picture of your future.  Be specific when it comes to your goals and dreams. A great goal is well-defined and focused.  Focus sets in motion a powerful force that is needed to achieve your goals.  According to Ryan Blair, The Goals Guy, “The moment you focus on a goal, your goal becomes a magnet, pulling you and your resources toward it. The more focused your energies, the more power you generate.”

Measureable: It’s important to set goals that are measureable.  Otherwise, how will you know when you’ve reached your goal?  The description of your goal and the outcome should be quantifiable.  As you work towards your goal, you should be able to clearly see the direction you are going and how far you have travelled in the direction of your goal.  How many pounds have you lost?  How many recruits have joined your team?  How much money have you made?  Put concrete numbers in your goals to measure them accurately.  Seeing your progress keeps you motivated to keep going. On the other hand, not seeing progress is a signal to make adjustments to keep you on the right track.

Attainable/Achievable:  Your goal should be attainable given available resources.  You must ask yourself if you are prepared to make the commitment your goal will demand of you.  Setting a goal that is so high it is unattainable can be detrimental to your success.  While it is a good idea to get in the habit of setting big goals that fill you with excitement, it is also wise to make sure that they are achievable.  Sometimes people confuse attainability with the next characteristic in the S.M.A.R.T. acronym, Realistic.  An attainable goal is one that is both realistic and achievable given your available resources (including time).  This doesn’t mean it has to be a goal that easy to reach, rather just far enough out of your reach so it will challenge you to work harder in order to reach it.

Realistic:  A realistic goal is one in which you have the skills, knowledge, and tools to make it happen. The root word of realistic is “real.” A goal has to be something that we can reasonably make “real” or a “reality” in our lives.  Far too often, people set goals beyond reach and get disappointed when they never achieve them.  Dream big and aim high, but be sure to keep one foot planted on the ground of reality.  Your goal should require you to stretch a bit beyond your normal routine and regular abilities, but allow for likely success.  You really have to know yourself well.  Be very honest with yourself as you plan and evaluate your goal.  Can you really make this happen?  If you truly believe you can, you are ahead of the game in a big way!

Relevant and Rewarding: Since Realistic is similar to Achievable/Attainable, I wanted to add a second “R” characteristic to the S.M.A.R.T. acronym.  Goals can only truly be successfully fulfilled when they are relevant to your life and priorities.  Too often people set goals that are rooted in ideas inherited from someone else, or outdated schools of thought.  Does your goal resonate with you are as a person?  If it does, then its accomplishment will be rewarding, which is also an important characteristic in defining your goals for success.  A rewarding goal is one you find exciting and valuable.  Setting a realistic goal that is both relevant and rewarding is a balancing act.  You may be able to realistically achieve your goal, but if it doesn’t evoke a passion within you, it will not hold ground very long.

Timely: Finally, a S.M.A.R.T. goal should define the time period in which it will be accomplished. Every goal should have a time frame attached to it. In fact, one of the most powerful aspects of a S.M.A.R.T. goal is that it has an ending.  Being clear about your timeline keeps you from falling behind schedule and missing your deadline.  If you need to, it’s ok to break up a larger goal into smaller ones with shorter time frames.  Do you have a reasonable date for achieving your goal in mind?  Creating a time-based goal makes it closed-ended and prevents procrastination from taking over.  Set boundaries so that you don’t repeatedly delay the start or push back the finish line. However, it is acceptable to adjust your time frames as you make progress.

To be sure you are setting a S.M.A.R.T. goal, ask yourself the following questions. What is it exactly that you want to accomplish and by when? Is it something you can actually see yourself doing within the time frame you’ve set? How will you know that you’ve reached your goal?  How will you feel when your goal has been accomplished?
